Bethel Mar Thoma Church, Bangalore is one of the 13 Mar Thoma parishes in the city and is part of the Chennai-Bangalore Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church. Our parish is located in Pai Layout, near KR Puram.
The church's origins trace back to two prayer groups — DRDO and ITI — of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church on Primrose Road, Bangalore. These groups came together with a vision for a new worship community and approached the Sabha authorities with a request to form an independent parish. This request was approved, and Bethel Mar Thoma Church was officially established as a parish in March 1994.
The foundation stone for the church was laid on 25th January 1993 by the late Valia Metropolitan, Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma. A chapel was completed later that year, and regular worship services began. However, as the Mar Thoma community in and around KR Puram grew, the chapel proved insufficient. In response, the prayer hall was extended, and the full church building was completed and dedicated on 16th December 1995 by Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Timotheos Episcopa.
Construction of the parsonage began on 14th July 1998 and was completed and dedicated on 29th April 1999.
To accommodate further growth, a new church building was constructed and dedicated on 22nd February 2008. The dedication service was led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa, in the presence of Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose Episcopa. At the time, Rev. K E Geevarghese served as the vicar of the parish.
The first Holy Communion in the new church building was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa on 23rd February 2008 at 8:00 AM.
Meet Our Vicars.
